Juice business is growing
Juice bars serving freshly squeezed juice are cropping up all over America and the world. It is no longer limited to freezer and refrigerated sections of your supermarket. Juice offers a healthier alternative to otherwise a busy lifestyle. People are looking for ways to get closer to plant based food and juice industry is raking profit from it.
The nonalcoholic beverage market in the U.S. is a $258 billion industry. Juicing is a $5 billion a year business growing at 4 to 8 percent a year. This fragmented business can put in to two main categories: traditional chilled products and freshly squeezed.
The traditional chilled juice product is a $2.25 billion business annually and products are available through most supermarkets nationwide. They include orange and apple juice, carbonated soft drinks and others. Coca-Cola entered the chilled-juice market in 2001 by acquiring Odwalla for $181 million. PepsiCo bought Naked for estimated $450 million in 2006.
Freshly squeezed are sold over 6,200 outlets nationwide. Most common outlets include Jamba Juice, Freshens, Maul Wowl, Smoothie King, Orange Jullus, City Blends, Tropical Smoothie Café, Surf City Squeeze, Robeks Juice, and Planet Smoothie. Juice bars made$2.04 billion sales during the year ended June 30, 2012.
